ITINERARIES
We have two different trekings around Tupiza that takes around 3-4 hours each.
THE OLD WEST TREKKING
The first place we visit is Quebrada de Palmira, a place full of canyons, ravines forming walls of red clay soil and vertical red mountains such as La Puerta del Diablo, where they stand proud showing their splendor, the legend says. During the carnival of Tupiza the devil fell in love with a cholita, so he decided to kidnap her. As the carnival was finishing, and the devil could no longer be among the humans, he loaded the cholita and ran out of town. In that race, the devil split in two a huge rock and that is what gave name to that natural wonder. After passing La Puerta del Diablo, further north, we visit the Valle de los Machos, they are rock formations eroded by the wind called by their phallic appearance. At the end of the route, we will visit the Cañon del Inca.
CANYON TREKKING
In this trekking, we will visit two canyons, Cañón del Duende and Cañón del Zorro. To avoid a long trip, we will drive by car from Tupiza to Cañón del Duende, which is an impressive canyon, named for the rock formation on its summit, similar to an elf. Here we will walk until the end of the canyon and return to the enter to take our next route through Cañón del Zorro, which connects this place with Puerta del Diablo, the car will pick us up from this point and drive to Tupiza.
Another way to visit Tupiza is by bike, you can rent it in our office and visit the city and surroundings by your own. We will provide you all the necessary equipment to do that. Drive to Puerta del Diablo, Cañón del Inca and Cañón del Duende, is not recommended since the route is very rocky and usually the wheels get flat, but you can ride to Toroyoj, El Angosto and Entre Rios. We rent bikes for half day or full day.
