Quetena is a native community living in the national reserve of Eduardo Avaroa, in the south of Lipez. They mainly live from the breeding of llamas. This is the departure village for the climb of Uturunku.

The population of Quetena is around 800 people, and some of the families, they have built in their houses some rooms, and they rent those rooms to the tours operator.

Huayllajara is a town about five kilometers from Laguna Colorada. This is where the shelters for stays in the Lipez are located. Services are limited (little or no water, electricity by generator, etc.) and the cold is often intense. Don’t miss the Huayllajara sky during the winter months, it feels like you can.

Santiago de Chuvica is a town 12 kilometers from Colcha K., on the road to San Juan de Rosario, Avaroa (Chile border). The basis of the economic sustenance of its inhabitants is the royal quinoa and the native potato, cultivated in the plain and on the slopes of the hill.

This community belongs to the municipality of Concha K. Being its original name Mallku Cueva, for the cave located in the same place where the Mallkus (authorities of the region) met. 

Around 350 persons live in this small town.
